I had the day off today… and it was fantastic. It rained much of the week, but the weather cleared up so I decided to take a drive to through the canyon to Provo and get some pictures of the fall foliage. I’m really liking the Golf, so this was also a good excuse to drive around with the windows down through curvy canyon roads. It was also a chance to use my new iPod dock. It looks like an ashtray…

but it’s actually an iPod dock…

Just add an iPod and viola - iGolf!

There’s a little box between the iPod and the factory stereo that lets me control the iPod with the CD changer controls. It worked like a charm for a week, but today the audio stopped working for some reason. I’m contacting the guy I bought the parts from to see if I can get the issue resolved. Until then, it’s back to the tape deck adapter I guess…

The drive was still beautiful though. Here’s a typical landscape for the area, just outside Price:

Right about where I took that picture is Grogg’s - one of the best places to eat in Price. They have good beer, good food, and nice servers. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s one of my favorite places in Price.

When I drove through the canyon on my way to go car shopping, the canyon was afire with bright red foliage, nicely contrasting with the evergreen trees. By this weekend the reds had faded but patches of amazingly bright yellows took their place.

But with all the coal mines around here, it doesn’t take long to come across a power plant.

When I got home, I packed up my guitar to ship back to Kansas City. I don’t have time to play it, and I have a smaller car for taking everything back East now, so I’m shipping it back. I read online that a good way to pack a guitar for shipping is to get a guitar box from a music store. They get lots of extra boxes from having guitars shipped to the store and usually just throw them out. One evening while heading to the post office in Price, I noticed that the open sign was still lit on the local music shop. I stopped in and found out they had just gotten a shipment of guitars the previous day. Not only that, but they were supposed to be closed and the clerk was staying late to work on inventory and hadn’t locked the door or turned off the light yet. On a normal day, I wouldn’t be back from work in time to visit them. So I got pretty luck, and my guitar has a box to go back to Kansas City in.

Maybe when I get back to Kansas City, I’ll actually start taking some guitar lessons.

Well, that was my Sunday. I was happy to have a break from work, and now it’s just a couple short weeks until I get to fly to St. Louis. Until then, back to work.
